A unique collection of buildings, displays and activities reveal the hidden world of mining through the centuries; learn about mining methods and machinery, the miners and their families. Put on your hard hat and battery lamp and descend 140m underground to learn how coal was mined and moved to the surface.  Our new galleries show how miners lived, worked and relaxed.  Ride on the 'locomotive', explore the Nature Trail and meet the retired pit ponies.
